The Healing powers of Slippery Elm and Goldenseal Powders

Just a little background for you, on slippery elm and goldenseal.

Slippery elm has been used by North American Indians for medicinal purposes for centuries. It comes from the bark of the elm tree. To this day, herbalists dry the slippery elm bark and make it into a powder. When mixed with water or other liquids it has mucilage properties, which is great for coating and healing the skin. You can take it internally, for irritated digestive conditions,  as well as apply topically to soothe skin irritations, burns, poison oak, sunburns and more.

Golden seal is the herb Hyrastis Canadensis. It's actually a member of the buttercup family. Also traditionally used by Native Americans for medicinal uses. It also can be taken internally, made into tinctures, or used topically for rashes, acne, bacterial and fungal irritations etc.

Both powders are excellent additions to creams and balms for their healing properties.

That's why we've included them both in our "KIss it better" baby balm and "Powder Puff" baby powder. Both have soothing, healing qualities.

Our baby balm is great for diaper rash and any minor skin irritations. It can be used by the whole family. We start by infusing organic almond oil with healing botanicals including calendula and lavender. We add a vegetable wax, slippery elm and goldenseal powders and theraputic essential oils. It's simple, clean and healing.

Our baby powder is talc and chemical free. Made with organic arrowroot and cornstarch powders. We add slippery elm and goldenseal for their healing properties and essential oils for a sweet, clean scent. Great to keep babies skin dry and comfortable.

Phthalates in skincare products:What they are and why you don't want them.

I wanted to let you know about Phthalates.

Phthalates are a group of chemicals used in many skincare products, often as perfume fixatives, giving the scent more staying power.

Shown to damage the lungs, kidneys, liver and reproductive systems in animal studies, phthalates can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled.

Now of course industry groups deny any risk, but I for one don't want any phthalates in my products.

That's why you want to be careful when so called natural products have "fragrance" oils in their ingredients. Look for essential oils instead. Then you know you're getting the pure scent of the botanical and not a chemical substitute.

The less chemicals we all use the better. For our bodies and the environment.

Hope this helps
